Substation Steel Prefabrication

Project Summary

AZCO prefabricated, galvanized and delivered substation steel designed by Burns & McDonnell for three new greenfield substations supporting the Wisconsin Power and Light solar program. The substations support solar energy generated by the program.

At Wood County, a 138-kV substation transforms 150 megawatts (MW) of solar generation at 35-kV to 138-kV via autotransformer and interconnect to American Transmission Co.’s (ATC) Nine Mile Creek Substation via a new 138-kV transmission line. At Bear Creek, a 69-kV substation transforms 50 MW of solar generation at 35-kV to 69-kV via autotransformer and interconnect to ATC’s Lone Rock Substation via 69-kV transmission line. At North Rock, a 69-kV substation transforms 50 MW of solar generation at 35-kV to 69-kV via autotransformer and interconnect to ATC’s Sheepskin Substation via new 69-kV transmission line.
