We were a field execution partner for a collector substation for an 80 MWac utility-scale solar facility in North Carolina. The collector interconnects to an existing switchyard. The team performed below and above-grade electrical construction across high-voltage equipment, structural supports, cable systems, terminations, grounding, and utility tie-ins.
Our original scope included installation of the control house enclosure terminations and jumpers, above-grade power and control cable installation and terminations, GSU transformer connections for 115/34.5–13.8 kV equipment, 115 kV circuit breaker installation, H-frame structures with lightning arrestors, station service transformer and SSVT structures, high-voltage disconnect switches, 34.5 kV circuit breakers, low-voltage generator connections, station lighting, HV and LV bus insulator supports, equipment support steel, static mast structures, overhead shield wires, and rigid and strain bus conductors and connectors.
As project needs changed, our team took on additional scope to help maintain schedule milestones. The expanded scope included base stone installation, ground grid installation, Trenwa cable trench systems, underground conduit and cable installation, cable and wire procurement, control cabinet installation, AC/DC power panel interconnection wiring, fiber-optic cable installation and terminations, and slack span tie-in to the existing switchyard.
The added work required clear coordination among engineering, construction, owner, and utility stakeholders. Our field leadership worked closely with the project team to plan the added scope, sequence the work, and keep installation moving safely and efficiently.
This project reflects our ability to team with owners, engineers, and prime contractors on complex utility-scale generation work. From high-voltage equipment installation to underground systems and final tie-ins, we helped deliver work that was built to install cleanly in the field and perform reliably.
