APPLETON, Wisconsin — AZCO, part of the Burns & McDonnell family of companies, has named Jonathan Woodsum president of the national industrial construction and fabrication firm.

With more than 25 years of experience, Woodsum has led large-scale, union construction organizations across the power generation, renewable energy, manufacturing, and metals and mining sectors, delivering complex engineer procure construct and design build projects.

“I am excited to lead AZCO during such a pivotal moment in the industry,” Woodsum says. “The labor shortage is not ending any time soon and industrial clients are more cost-conscious than ever. Fortunately, AZCO offers a rare combination of strengths that make successful projects possible. We have the advantage of integrated engineering through Burns & McDonnell, as well as in-house fabrication capabilities that improve project safety and predictability, both which build upon our multigenerational legacy of high-quality industrial construction. These attributes uniquely position us to scale thoughtfully, expand into growing markets and deliver projects more efficiently than most contractors.”

Woodsum’s career is grounded in union industrial construction, with deep experience delivering complex projects in demanding environments. He has built and led industrial construction businesses across the Midwest and North America, most recently serving in leadership roles for major U.S.-based contractors, where he helped establish new markets, supported multibillion-dollar, design-build projects, and oversaw thousands of craft and staff professionals.

Woodsum succeeds Earle Cianchette, who is retiring. Cianchette assumed leadership of AZCO in 2022. Prior to that he had leadership roles at Burns & McDonnell in the Northeast United States.

“During Earle’s tenure, AZCO expanded its reach into substations, solar and battery storage; strengthened its fabrication capabilities across key sectors, including food and beverage; and obtained certification for the firm to perform structural steel fabrication in Canada,” says Leslie M. Duke, president and CEO of Burns & McDonnell. “We will continue that momentum. Jonathan understands the complexity of industrial construction, values the craft workforce behind AZCO’s success and recognizes the mutual benefit of our partnership. He brings the strategic vision and hands-on experience needed to drive growth while staying true to AZCO’s foundation.”

AZCO supports a diverse portfolio of industrial projects across the United States and Canada, working independently and in close collaboration with Burns & McDonnell. Recent work includes construction and fabrication in industries ranging from power generation and distribution, oil and gas, food and beverage, aviation fueling, and battery storage. Many of these efforts leverage AZCO’s ability to integrate field construction with fabrication and early engineering coordination.

In addition to its field construction capabilities, AZCO performs pipe, metal and electrical fabrication from its 90,000-square-foot fabrication facility in Appleton, Wisconsin. The facility supports projects nationwide by improving schedule certainty, safety performance and overall project quality through controlled, off-site fabrication. The fabrication advantage is an important one for AZCO and Burns & McDonnell, as not many companies have fabrication shops that work in multiple industries.
